Research & Publications

As a scholar, I examine the educational dynamic within religion and the religious dynamic in education.

Research

This means that I have completed a variety of studies. I have completed qualitative research on local athletes and educator-coaches about religion and spirituality, along with another study into educational leadership. I have a forthcoming book on the work of educator-priest-coach Father David Bauer, who established and ran the Canadian men's ice hockey team throughout the 1960s and into the 1980s. I am working with a group of international scholars on a history of sport and Christianity to be published in 2024. To complement this work, I have led a book about a Catholic theology of sport that is now available for purchase.

Trained in religious education (RE), I also examine curricular concerns provincially, nationally, and internationally. For instance, in the past, I investigated former RE programs in Alberta and critiqued the use of creation in Catholic RE programs on the continent and beyond.

I am grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Doris Kule and their support with the "Peter and Doris Kule Chair in Catholic Religious Education". Their generosity to the College has created a rare endowed position in Catholic religious education.

Publications

In 2019, I was the lead editor of a book titled: Sport and Christianity: Practices for the Twenty-First Century. View a select portion of the book in a web-based PDF applet.

To see an overview of my published work, check out some highlighted pieces at Academia.edu. I can email copies of interest.
